Did you know…most people are aware that many of the pollutants that are in our waters can be traced to specific sources such as those piped into our streams from an industrial facility or from a sewage treatment plant. This type of discharge, coming from an identifiable source, is referred to as point-source pollution. Facilities engaging in activities producing point-source pollution are required to have a State Operating Permit from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Water Protection Program that sets limits on the pollutants allowed to be discharged into a waterway. more

After the South Grand River Watershed Alliance (SGRWA) presented a program about watersheds and streams to the Home Owners Association of Morningview Adult Community in Raymore, residents of the community took action. They held a stream cleanup event on the headwater stream that begins in their community. Nine residents, Joanne and Bob Doudrick, Larry Clark, Chris Harrelson, Ed Harris, Jerry Jenkins, Sue Wendel, Wilma Bell, and John Beckerdite, worked many hours picking up trash in and around the stream. A number of trash bags were filled as a result of their efforts. The group is already talking of plans to hold future stream cleanup events.
